CHIN Picnic 2011

Local 793 was well represented at the 45th annual Scotiabank CHIN International Picnic held at Exhibition Place in Toronto from July 1 to 3. The local had a booth and mechanical simulators set up at the event. Business manager Mike Gallagher, business reps, head office staff and instructors from the Operating Engineers Training Institute of Ontario were on hand to answer questions from the public. More than 250,000 people attend the three-day picnic each year. It is the largest free multicultural picnic in the world and provided great exposure for Local 793. People who came to the booth were able to learn more about the union and see for themselves what it’s like to be an operating engineer in Ontario. The simulators, in particular, were a hit with many of those who visited the booth. Nearly 700 people tried their hand on the simulators.
