PREP WORK BEGINS AT OAKVILLE HOSPITAL SITE
Preparation work has begun at the site of a new hospital slated for Oakville.
MPP Kevin Flynn joined hospital officials at the site recently to celebrate the milestone.
Site preparation work is required to allow construction on the hospital to begin immediately following financial close.
The site prep work includes:
- locating all utilities servicing the site;
- installation of sediment and erosion-control fencing;
- digging of temporary storm-water management ditches to manage water and increase rainwater retention; and
- topsoil stripping and earth grading.
Infrastructure Ontario and Halton Healthcare recently announced that Hospital Infrastructure Partners has been chosen to build the facility. They are now working to finalize contract details.
The team includes Carillion Canada Inc., EllisDon Corporation, Fengate Capital Management Limited, Parkin Architects in joint venture with Adamson Associates Architects, Honeywell Limited and Scotia Capital.
The project is expected to reach commercial and financial close this summer, which will mean that relevant contracts have been signed and a financing rate has been set._
Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Flynn, the MPP for Oakville, said he couldn't be happier that work is now under way on the new, state-of-the-art hospital.
"This project is expected to be the provincial government's largest capital investment in any community in our province's history," he said. "I am proud to have delivered on my promise to bring this new hospital to Oakville."
Halton Healthcare Services president and CEO John Oliver said the site prep work brings the hospital one step closer to reality.
"We are fortunate to have the opportunity to build this new hospital to meet the needs of our patients and our community," he said. "We are on track to complete negotiations with Hospital Infrastructure Partners by the end of July and are looking forward to working in partnership with HIP to build this much-needed hospital for Oakville."
