DESIGN OF HEAD OFFICE NETS AWARD

Local 793’s head office and training centre was recognized in September as the best commercial building constructed over the last three years in Oakville.
Michael Spaziani Architect Inc. of Port Credit, the firm that designed the 33,000-square-foot structure, was recognized for the accomplishment recently at the 2007 Oakville Urban Design Awards.
Local 793 business manager Mike Gallagher attended a ceremony at Oakville town hall and accepted the award from Mayor Rob Burton.
Afterwards, Gallagher said it is an honour for Local 793’s building to be selected by the panel of judges.
“Our members across the province are very proud of our new head office and training centre. The architect did a great job and we’re very pleased that the distinctive design of the building has been recognized.”
The awards are handed out every three years. Judges considered architecture, quality and innovation and functional requirements of each project. There were 24 submissions. Awards were also given out to a number of residential projects.
The submission made by Spaziani stated that Local 793’s two-storey building is consistent with the basic shapes and functions of a crane and that materials used in the building include both load-bearing brick and glass curtain wall used in contrast to one another.
The building was built by Cooper Construction Limited. Strybos and Associates was the landscape architect.
